In June 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy visited the Federal Republic of Germany – a central event of the Cold War. The photograph shows Kennedy in conversation on an airport apron, immediately after landing, accompanied by his delegation and security personnel. Kennedy’s visit to Germany from June 23-26, 1963 took him to Cologne, Bonn, Frankfurt, and West Berlin and was regarded as a visible sign of American solidarity with the Federal Republic.
