The photograph is from the climax of the rally at the Lincoln Memorial, where King delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech. The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963 was one of the largest demonstrations of the U.S. civil rights movement and demanded the abolition of racial segregation as well as equal civil and labor rights for the Black population. King’s speech is regarded as one of the most significant rhetorical documents in American history.
