Historical background

The film was shot in 1979 and shows the first personal computers. The Apple II is introduced. A rare glimpse of a personal computer from Polymorphic Systems is also shown. Children are taught how to use computers.

The Apple II was a revolutionary personal computer launched by Apple Inc. in 1977. It was designed by Steve Wozniak and marketed by Steve Jobs (both co-founders of Apple) from April 1977. It became one of the first successful mass-produced 8-bit microcomputers to be sold worldwide. The Apple II was unveiled at the West Coast Computer Faire in April 1977. It was the company’s first personal computer intended for the mass market. The design was innovative for the time: a plastic housing and a keyboard integrated into the main unit. This made it a stand-alone device, unlike many other microcomputers of the time. One of the most important features of the Apple II was its expansion slots, which allowed users to add peripherals and expansion cards, such as additional memory, hard drive controllers and more. The Apple II had a built-in BASIC programming language interpreter, colour graphics, sound, expansion slots and a keyboard. It was a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Apple I, which was primarily a hobbyist’s device.

The Apple II series was built from 1977 to 1993, a period of about 16 years. During this time, over two million original Apple II computers were manufactured.
