The opening ceremony took place over several days and included various events, including a pedestrian crossing on 27 May, when the bridge was opened exclusively to pedestrians. The following day, 28 May, the bridge was opened to vehicle traffic.
The Golden Gate Bridge connects the city of San Francisco with Marin County and spans the Golden Gate Strait, which connects the Pacific Ocean with San Francisco Bay. It is considered one of the most famous and beautiful bridges in the world and is a masterpiece of engineering.
The Golden Gate Bridge project was led by Chief Engineer Joseph Strauss, and construction began in 1933. Despite the challenges and economic crisis of the time, the bridge was completed on time and on budget.
