Description

Landing of Valentina Tereshkova 1963

Historical context

Valentina Tereshkova (Valentina Tereshkova), the first woman in space, experienced a special landing after her Vostok 6 mission in June 1963. It should be noted that the Soviet cosmonauts were catapulted out of the falling spacecraft after their space capsule re-entered the Earth’s atmosphere in order to land with a parachute. Tereshkova landed them near the Altai region in Kazakhstan. Before the official recovery team could arrive, she was found by villagers who helped her out of her spacesuit. Against protocol, she shares space food with residents. The film footage was shot immediately after the rescue team arrived by helicopter. They show the villagers with the cosmonaut, who has the strain written all over her face. The space tube food is distributed. This incident was captured by the film crew and in several photos showing Tereshkova sitting with the villagers, sharing food and drinks. She was later reprimanded for this breach of protocol.
