The façade of Munich’s National Theatre shows clear signs of war damage. Bullet holes and large cracks criss-cross the once magnificent outer wall. Debris is scattered around and the roof has partially collapsed. Silence now reigns where once the sounds of opera could be heard. There are no people to be seen – only the traces of destruction, a silent witness to the war.
