Description

Allies stand by Berlin – 25 August 1961

This newsreel reports on the escalating Berlin Crisis. West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer visits West Berlin, thereby boosting the morale of the citizens, while the Soviet and East German authorities intensify their propaganda against the West. Adenauer visits the border, where East German loudspeaker vans broadcast mock messages and windows facing the border have been bricked up to prevent escape attempts. The images show American troops arriving by truck from West Germany at Kurfürstendamm and being enthusiastically received by cheering crowds.
