In the preparation phase before D-Day, numerous accredited US war correspondents concentrated in southern England to document the impending invasion firsthand. Jack Lieb captured this circle of journalists with his private 16-mm Kodachrome camera in color — a rarity, as comparable footage from this period survives almost exclusively in black and white. The scene stands at the beginning of Lieb’s film and reflects the tense waiting period in which correspondents such as Ernie Pyle, Jack Thompson, and Larry LeSueur awaited the order to march out.
