In the weeks before the invasion, Jack Lieb filmed in southern England, among other things, accredited U.S. war correspondents who were to accompany the landing operation. Weston Haynes wore the standardized badge “U.S. War Correspondent,” which permitted accredited journalists access to front-line areas without conferring military rank upon them. These shots belong to the introductory section of Lieb’s film and show the journalistic environment in which Lieb himself operated as a newsreel cameraman for the Hearst newsreel.
