Rally in Berlin 1919
Description
Rally in Berlin 1919
Historical context
In 1919, numerous people gathered at rallies in Berlin to protest against what they saw as the humiliating terms of the Treaty of Versailles. Above all, the protesters criticised the territorial losses, the high reparations payments and the strict disarmament requirements, which they saw as the reason for the economic hardship and political instability in the Weimar Republic. These demonstrations were a clear sign of the deep discontent among the German population and laid the foundations for revanchist nationalism.
