During the state visit of US President John F. Kennedy to the Federal Republic of Germany (June 23–26, 1963), Chancellor Konrad Adenauer spoke on multiple occasions at public events. Adenauer was one of the central figures accompanying the visit and stood for the German-American partnership in the context of the Cold War. The visit took place against the backdrop of the Wall construction erected in 1961 and was regarded as an important signal of Western solidarity.
