The photograph shows Moritzburg Castle, the Elector’s hunting lodge northwest of Dresden, viewed from across the castle pond. The four massive round towers with their Baroque cupolas and the central connecting structure are clearly visible; before them extends the expansive castle pond, its banks framed by rows of trees and trimmed ornamental shrubs. The camera position beneath leafy branches gives the composition a picturesque, foliage-framed character. In the travel film, Moritzburg Castle serves as a Baroque excursion destination in the countryside around Dresden, presented by the film during the Saxony leg—following or alongside footage of the Zwinger and Semperoper—as an example of princely castle architecture from the early eighteenth century. The image thus belongs to the section on Saxony’s cultural landscape.
