The photo shows the Café des Deux Magots in Paris in 1939. The famous café in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighbourhood, known as a meeting place for intellectuals, writers and artists, was probably occupied by elegant Parisian guests – some engrossed in conversation, others with newspapers or coffee. The exterior façade with its characteristic awnings and the lettering “Les Deux Magots” is clearly recognisable.
