A double-decker bus of line 29 operated by the Berlin Transport Authority stops at a marked bus stop in the West Berlin city area. On the advertising banner of the bus, the lettering ‘FENWA’ and the word ‘Wäsche’ (laundry) are visible – evidence of contemporary consumer goods available in the western part of the city. In the background, a multi-story Wilhelmine-era building that survived the war is visible, with a modern new building alongside it pointing to ongoing reconstruction activities. A passenger carrying a briefcase waits at the stop – an image of normalizing everyday life in West Berlin in 1955. The scene exemplifies functioning urban public transportation as a sign of regained urban infrastructure amid the beginning of the economic miracle (Wirtschaftswunder).
