The photograph shows the street façade of a Baroque urban palace in Erfurt, presumably the House of the Red Ox or a comparable burgher’s palace at the Fish Market. The portal is furnished with atlantes figures, a curved balcony, and rich sculptural ornament – characteristic of the Franconian-Thuringian Baroque of the early eighteenth century. In the background right, a Gothic church tower of sandstone is visible, which points to the dense medieval building development of Erfurt’s old town. In the foreground, pedestrians in everyday civilian dress and an automobile are visible, documenting the cityscape of 1937. In the travel film, this photograph is assigned to the Erfurt section of the third reel and stands as testimony to the historical architectural culture of the Thuringian state capital.
