The photograph shows the city skyline of Mainz viewed from a slight distance, captured from a wooded or planted riverbank. In the left portion of the image, several Romanizing towers rise prominently, which can be attributed to the area of Mainz Cathedral; on the right, a slender neo-Gothic church tower is visible. A dense stand of trees in the middle ground largely obscures the buildings and lends the image a picturesque, idyllic quality. Within the travel film, this panoramic view is integrated into the sequence of Rhine stations, presenting the medieval-influenced cityscape on the Rhine as a classic travel destination.
