According to the transmitted image title, this is Marian Anderson, the concert and opera singer who was regarded as a symbol of the civil rights movement. Marshals in light-colored uniforms stand to the left and right; in the background, densely packed participants of the rally are visible. The photograph belongs to the rally phase at the Lincoln Memorial, the central location of the March on Washington on August 28, 1963. The march assembled hundreds of thousands of people who demanded civil rights and equal economic opportunities for the African American population.
