The Brown House, converted by Paul Ludwig Troost for the NSDAP in 1931, was part of the “Nazi Party Center” in Munich, along with Hitler’s residence at Prinzregentenplatz and the Führerbau at Königsplatz. After the 1943/44 bombings, only a ruin remained, which was demolished after the end of the war. On 29 April 1945, units of the US 7th Army — led by the legendary 42nd Infantry Division (“Rainbow”) and the 45th Infantry Division (“Thunderbird”) — reached Munich’s city center. The former Nazi “Capital of the Movement” was taken with almost no resistance.
