During his state visit to the Federal Republic of Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy was received by the population with great enthusiasm. The photograph shows Kennedy in the motorcade, receiving floral greetings from the people. Such scenes of spontaneous affection characterized the entire course of the journey and reflected the close bond between the West German population and the United States in the context of the Cold War.
