During his visit to Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy was received by large crowds in several German cities. The photograph shows a motorcade through a historic city center, accompanied by motorized police escort and densely packed crowds lining both sides of the route. The visit took place in the context of the Cold War and American solidarity with the Federal Republic of Germany and West Berlin.
