During his visit to Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy delivered an address to the population in Cologne. The visit took place in the context of the Cold War and served to reaffirm American support for the Federal Republic of Germany. Kennedy was received by jubilant crowds; the journey subsequently took him to Bonn, Frankfurt, and West Berlin.
