As part of Operation Overlord, thousands of Allied ships crossed the English Channel on June 6, 1944, to land troops, vehicles, and supplies on the Normandy coast. Jack Lieb filmed this scene with his private 16-mm Kodachrome camera—one of the few color recordings of this event. The landing ships formed the logistical backbone of the invasion and enabled the rapid establishment of the Allied beachhead.
