As part of Operation Overlord (June 6, 1944), Allied landing craft transported troops and materiel from transport ships to the coast of Normandy. Jack Lieb filmed this phase of the invasion with his private 16-mm Kodachrome camera while landing at Utah Beach with an element of the 82nd Airborne Division. The color footage is among the few color documents of an invasion that was otherwise preserved almost exclusively in black and white.
