The photograph belongs to the concluding section of Lieb’s film and shows Berlin after the German capitulation in 1945. The Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church on the Kurfürstendamm, heavily damaged by Allied bombing raids, stood as one of the most well-known witnesses to the destruction of the Reich capital. Lieb documented the devastated Berlin in color – footage that captures the theater of war in rare color documentation.
