As part of his visit to Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy participated in official receptions and state banquets. The photograph shows Kennedy in formal evening dress in conversation with German officials. The visit took place in the context of the Cold War and served to reaffirm the transatlantic alliance between the United States and the Federal Republic of Germany.
