During his visit to Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy was received by large crowds. The photograph shows a densely packed crowd in a public square, decorated with American flags. Kennedy’s visit took place in the context of the Cold War and served to reaffirm the German-American partnership as well as Western solidarity against the Soviet threat.
