This photograph was taken in May 1944 in London and belongs to the opening sequence of Jack Lieb’s color film, in which he documented life in England immediately before D-Day. While the Allied forces concentrated their strength for the invasion, civilian daily life in the British capital continued. Such scenes served Lieb as a contrast between the impending military deployment and the normal life that the soldiers left behind.
