The photograph shows the Hauptwache in Frankfurt am Main from an elevated perspective: the characteristic Baroque pavilion structure with hip roof and round-arch arcades stands at the center of the square, surrounded by a dense streetcar network and numerous pedestrians. Streetcars are visible on the left and right, with tracks crossing on the square. In the background, multi-story Gründerzeit buildings line the square and testify to the urban density of Frankfurt’s center. The photograph documents everyday traffic and city life in Frankfurt during the late 1930s. In the travel film, this sequence serves as a vivid picture of the metropolis Frankfurt am Main, which is presented in Reel 1 as one of the stations on the Germany journey.
