The photograph shows a narrow alley in Frankfurt am Main’s Old Town with densely built, multi-story bourgeois houses in half-timbered and solid masonry construction. Shop fronts with awnings are visible on the ground floor; pedestrians and hand carts enliven the paved street. In the background, a Gothic church tower rises, which can be attributed to Frankfurt Cathedral. The image thus represents the historic Old Town core of Frankfurt, which was largely destroyed during the Second World War and today survives only in such film documents. In the travel film, Frankfurt’s Old Town forms a characteristic stop between the spa towns of Wiesbaden and Bad Homburg and the medieval city silhouette of Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
