The still image shows an adult person wearing glasses and a child wearing a cap looking together into the storefront window of a shoe shop. In the window display is an advertisement sign showing a women’s sandal and a price indication. The photograph is part of the preparatory sequences of the documentary film that depict everyday life and mobilization in cities before the March on Washington. Such scenes illustrated the contrast between ordinary urban life and the economic inequalities against which the march on August 28, 1963 protested, among other things. The demands of the march included, alongside civil rights equality, explicitly also economic participation and employment for the Black population of the USA.
