The photograph shows the Main Market in Nuremberg during busy market operations: numerous market stalls are equipped with light-colored parasols, between which buyers and merchants are visible. In the background, multi-story civic buildings with hipped roofs and half-timbered elements line the square; on the right, a tower-like corner building is visible. The Main Market was the central weekly and commodity market of the Old Town and was among the characteristic townscape motifs of Nuremberg. In the 1937 travel film, this photograph represents the medieval character of Nuremberg’s cityscape and the vibrant urban everyday life. The scene illustrates the marketplace as the heart of Nuremberg’s city center before the destructions of World War II.
