The still shows one of Nuremberg’s most recognizable urban scenes: the Weinstadel, a massive half-timbered building of the 15th century on the bank of the Pegnitz, beside it the medieval water tower built of sandstone blocks, and the arched Henkersteg bridge. In the foreground, three persons observe the scenery, which underscores the touristic character of the shot. The image composition corresponds to the classical travel film motif: the picturesque ensemble of water, tower, bridge, and half-timbered structure stands for Nuremberg’s medieval cityscape. In the 1937 travel film, this section marks the Nuremberg stop on reel 3, which also encompasses Weißenburg, Erfurt, and Dresden. The shot is part of the film’s presentation of historic urban architecture as witnesses to Franconian building tradition.
