The Messerschmitt Me 262 is featured in the concluding section of Jack Lieb’s color film, which documents captured German aircraft after the end of the war. As the world’s first series-produced jet fighter aircraft, the Me 262 represented a technological turning point; it was introduced into the Luftwaffe in 1944, but could no longer influence the outcome of the war. After German surrender, the Allies publicly displayed such captured equipment to inform the public about the technical developments of the war. Lieb’s color footage of this exhibition is a rare color document of this postwar period.
