During his visit to Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy was received by the population with extraordinary enthusiasm. The aerial photograph shows the President’s motorcade moving through a densely packed, cheering crowd. Such motorcades characterized Kennedy’s public appearances at several stops during his journey through the Federal Republic of Germany. The visit took place against the backdrop of the Cold War and the construction of the wall erected in 1961.
