In June 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy visited the Federal Republic of Germany. The trip took him through several cities, where jubilant crowds welcomed him everywhere. The aerial photograph shows one of the typical motorcade scenes of the visit, during which the vehicle convoy could only slowly make its way through the densely packed population. Such images defined the visit to Germany as one of the most striking public events of the Cold War.
