In June 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy visited the Federal Republic of Germany. During the multi-day visit, vehicle motorcades were received by large crowds at numerous locations. The image shows such a scene: an open state car halts amid a large gathering of people, accompanied by security personnel and police. The visit took place in the context of the Cold War and was intended to underscore transatlantic solidarity with the Federal Republic.
