In June 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy visited the Federal Republic of Germany and West Berlin. Along the entire route of the journey, the population received Kennedy with great enthusiasm and dense crowds. The scene shows the emotional reception of the state visit by the German civilian population, which in the context of the Cold War and the wall constructed in 1961 was perceived as a visible sign of American solidarity with the Federal Republic.
