The P-47 Thunderbolt of the USAAF was a central instrument of tactical air support at the invasion front in 1944. Following the landing in Normandy, P-47 units operated from improvised airfields in liberated France and supported the Allied advance through attacks on German troop formations, supply lines, and infrastructure. Jack Lieb captured such scenes of daily life at the invasion front in rare color footage.
