During his state visit to the Federal Republic of Germany from June 23 to June 26, 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy met with Federal President Heinrich Lübke. The visit took place in the context of the Cold War and served to reaffirm the transatlantic alliance as well as the American security guarantee for West Germany and West Berlin. The highlight of the journey was Kennedy’s speech before the Schöneberg Town Hall on June 26, 1963.
