During his visit to Germany from June 23 to 26, 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy met with leading representatives of the Federal Republic, including Federal President Heinrich Lübke. The visit took place against the backdrop of the Cold War and the Berlin Wall erected in 1961, and served to reaffirm the transatlantic alliance. The highlight of the trip was Kennedy’s speech on June 26 before the Schöneberg Town Hall in West Berlin.
