In June 1963, U.S. President John F. Kennedy visited the Federal Republic of Germany and West Berlin. The journey took him through several cities, where he was received by enormous crowds everywhere. The photograph shows a motorcade with open vehicles and police motorcycle escort, lined by densely packed, cheering crowds. Such scenes repeated themselves along the entire route of travel and document the extraordinary enthusiasm of the West German population for the American President.
