U.S. President John F. Kennedy delivers a speech at a lectern equipped with several microphones. Based on the photograph, this is an official speaking engagement during his visit to Germany from June 23–26, 1963. The trip took Kennedy through several locations in the Federal Republic of Germany and culminated in his speech before the Schöneberg Town Hall in West Berlin. Against the backdrop of the Cold War and the construction of the Wall in 1961, the visit was a central signal of American solidarity with West Germany.
