Speakers Corner in Hyde Park was one of London’s bustling meeting points that Lieb filmed in May 1944 during the preparation phase for the invasion. During this time, hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers had assembled in England; London was a destination for troops and correspondents alike. The scene appears in the first section of Lieb’s film, which captures everyday life and the mood in England immediately before D-Day—a phase that is otherwise scarcely documented in color.
