Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park remained a vibrant public forum during the Second World War, where anyone could speak freely. Lieb’s photograph was taken in May 1944, during the final weeks before D-Day, when London was still the staging point for the invasion preparations. The scene is part of the London preparation section of the film and shows the civilian everyday life of the British capital shortly before the beginning of the Normandy landing.
