As part of the crossing to or landing at Utah Beach in June 1944, Jack Lieb filmed with his 16-mm Kodachrome camera aboard a US landing craft. In the background, other landing ships of the invasion fleet can be seen, which numbered among the largest forces in the history of warfare. Lieb landed together with an element of the 82nd Airborne Division at Utah Beach – his color footage of this phase is among the few color documentations of D-Day.
