The image shows Utah Beach in Normandy shortly after the landings of June 6, 1944. A temporary medical station marked with Red Cross insignia was established directly on the beach, while landing craft remain at the shoreline in the background. Utah Beach was the westernmost of the Allied landing sectors; Jack Lieb also came ashore here with elements of the 82nd Airborne Division. The scene appears in the early part of Lieb’s film and documents the immediate aftermath of the landing operation.
