Jack Lieb landed with a naval-support element of the 82nd Airborne Division at Utah Beach and captured the immediate aftermath of the landing in color. The visible sign “Navy Beach” marks one of the coordinated command areas of the Allied naval forces at this beach sector. Utah Beach was the westernmost of the five Allied landing zones of Operation Overlord and was secured with comparatively light casualties. Lieb’s 16-mm Kodachrome footage ranks among the few color documents that directly document D-Day.
