The Atlantic Wall was a system of German coastal fortifications that extended from Norway to the Spanish border and was intended to repel the Allied attack. On the Normandy coast, these positions were largely overcome or destroyed in the course of the landing operations in June 1944. Lieb’s color footage shows the remains of such installations after the breakthrough of the Allied troops and documents the condition of the German defensive works immediately after the fighting around Utah Beach and the Normandy hinterland.
