In the summer of 1944, the airspace over Normandy was fiercely contested. The Allied air forces fought for air superiority, which was decisive for the success of ground operations following the landing of June 6. Jack Lieb captured this moment in his private 16-mm Kodachrome material, which documents the Normandy campaign in rare color footage. Such aerial combat scenes complement the ground footage of Utah Beach, Cherbourg, and the Normandy hinterland in his film.
