On 19 August 1944, the French Résistance in Paris launched an open uprising against the German garrison – the beginning of the week-long liberation of the city (19–25 August 1944). During these days, collaborators and suspects were arrested in many places by armed resistance fighters and law enforcement. The scene is set in the context of the chaotic days marked by street fighting, before the 2nd French Armored Division under General Leclerc entered Paris on 25 August and General von Choltitz capitulated.
